With Android Auto, you can connect your phone to the infotainment system in your car and stay connected while driving. Many new cars offer a wireless alternative to the typically attached USB connection that is required to connect to Android Auto.
Wireless Android Auto has started to become very popular among many manufacturers as a standard feature, previously this feature was available only for exotic cars and supermodels.
How does wireless Android Auto operate? What is it?
The Wireless Android Auto uses Wi-Fi to connect your smartphone directly to the stereo system of your car. Once you have completed the basic setup, Android Auto will then connect your phone to the multimedia screen of your car every time you get your vehicle.
Similar to the standard Android Auto, wireless AA removes the in-car audio system and depends on your phone to do the work. It requires a head unit that is suitable for it and also with the car Wi-Fi since Bluetooth does not transfer enough data to enable wireless AA.
While Android Auto is on, the screen display of your car will reflect your phone in so many ways. On the screen of your car, appropriate apps from your mobile will appear as icons. It will replicate your phone.
After this stage, you can use the Music app or podcasts. You can even use Google Assistant, and view Maps as well. Several apps are compatible with Android Auto. Such as Whatsapp and Spotify to name a few.
Which cars allow wireless Android Auto?
Even though there are huge advantages of Bluetooth, Google has not made a large deal out of the feature or the cars that enable it.
Though the compatibility list has not been up to date for a while. The compatibility is confirmed only on BMW models of 2019 that support this particular feature.
We have created our own wireless Android Auto compliance list. However it is not an extensive list, it does contain models that we have seen and for which the seller has provided support.

What if my car is not compatible?
If your car makes it after 2018 and also has in-built Wi-Fi and only supports the Android Auto through USB, you can still use this feature. There is a feature called over the air update. This is used by a couple of manufacturers. Mostly used by BMW for their old cars.
We have great news if that isn’t an option and you want to install the feature to your vehicle. You can connect wirelessly with adapters that are cost-effective on the market.
Moreover, there is a hack in which you can use the Android TV stick that allows older Android Auto units to go wireless. This hack is not supported by somewhat unexpected google.
For various car owners, smartphone compatibility has fast become a must-have feature. Because of their unclear controls, poor displays, and slow response rates, new stereo systems can be complicated to handle.
Also, people just sometimes use navigation systems in their vehicles, which might make it hard to get used to the discomforts. The scenario with mobile connectivity is entirely different.
The majority of individuals are far more used to the structure of their phones because they spend close to three hours every day using one. Users of Google Android devices can install Android Auto to bring their smartphone interface and features to the in-car entertainment system.
Users who have Android Auto can gain lots of benefits from Google Assistant. They can use navigation maps and hear their favorite songs through Spotify. They can reply to texts and manage their calendars using Android Auto. To use Android Auto, most new vehicles require a phone to be connected to a USB port, however certain models support wireless connectivity.
Conclusion
In the long term, when companies add vehicles’ capability of accepting over-the-air upgrade technology may change. Through this technology, it will provide WiFi Android Auto in a few of its car models. While additional vehicles with comparable features may soon follow this example. It’s less likely that wireless Android Auto will be added to the current models of those vehicles.
